Personal Projects

x Other Creative Works

I am constantly working on at least one creative project in my free time. Whether it’s writing or performing or art or helping a small business owner with a project, my mind is never idle.

Offline Social Network

In 2018, I founded “Pam & Dave’s Offline Social Network,” a series of casual networking events. Each month-ish, I coordinate dinners & other outings and invite members. At this time, we have about 30 members in the group, with roughly 12 regular attendees. In February 2020, however, we organized a dinner for 26 members at Marrakesh Restaurant in the Alphabet District.

While this is done strictly as a hobby, my intent is to expand our network to other cities in the Northwest. One of our regulars, who lives in Salem, is currently forming a Salem-based group.

Public Speaking

My mom directed dozens of plays & musicals for community theatre in my hometown. As a kid, I always tagged along to rehearsals and basically grew up backstage. Whenever a play needed extras in my age group, I was onstage.

At 14, I landed my first of many Emcee gigs.

At some point as an adult, I realized that most people shy away from public speaking. This surprised me. Public speaking had become so normalized in my life that I had naively assumed everyone was comfortable with it. Apparently, that’s not the case, so I happily volunteer when given the chance.

Comedy

I once took a 6-week community ed class on comedy writing. The end project was to write and deliver a 3-minute stand-up comedy set twice, at two different venues. I loved this and always got a huge rush performing on stage.

While I haven’t performed stand-up for several years, I put my comedy writing skills to work as frequently as possible. And now that I’m not busy with college work, I’d like to find an open mic again to work on new material.

Film

In 2017, I wrote, produced, and acted in a romantic comedy silent short film called, “The Zip Jar.”
